Safety controls for messages
You're in control of who can reach you: block any neighbor from their profile or a thread (unblock any time), and report a message or conversation to the moderators right where you see it. Blocking stops new messages both ways while keeping the old thread readable.

Messages and exchanges update live
No more refreshing: new messages appear in your open thread and inbox the moment they're sent, and exchange requests and status changes show up in your Exchanges page and on item pages as they happen.

Direct messages have arrived
You can now message any neighbor directly. Tap Message on a profile or on an exchange to start the thread, and find every conversation under Messages in the account menu, with an unread count so you know when something's waiting.

Notifications by email, on your terms
Exchange activity, messages, and system notices can now reach your inbox as well as the in-app panel. Settings has a new Email notifications section where you choose which of them email you — turn any of them off and they still show up in the app.

Notifications have arrived
Open the account menu and you'll find a notifications panel: exchange requests, accepts, handoffs, completions, and ratings land there as they happen, with an unread count on the menu entry. Opening the panel marks everything read.

The camera sees the shelf before you snap
On iPhone, the scanner now reads book spines live in the viewfinder — a quiet counter ticks up as titles come into view, and the shutter ring turns green when it has something. Everything happens on your device; nothing is sent anywhere until you tap.

Snap a shelf and watch it fill in
Scanning a shelf of books no longer means staring at one long spinner. The books now appear as soon as we read their spines and fill in their covers and authors as each is found, so you can start reviewing right away. If one book can't be matched, you retry just that one instead of the whole shelf.

Fix your shelf's area
You can now see the area your shelf uses on the map, correct it if we guessed wrong, or clear it entirely. Books without their own pickup spot follow the area you set, so a wrong guess no longer puts your books in the wrong place.

Every account starts with a shelf
New accounts now come with a public "My First Shelf", so your very first book can go straight onto the map. And the "Add a book" buttons now take you right to a shelf you can add to.

Your books show up on the map automatically
Books on a public shelf now appear on the map at your shelf's city, even before you pin an exact pickup spot. Add a specific spot anytime to place a book precisely; make the shelf private to take it back off the map.
